2009 Quilt Show Overview

The inspiration for “Summer Bliss”, painted by Dan Rickards of Sisters, Oregon, comes from our hometown’s natural beauty and what Dan has come to love in quilts:  color, tradition and amazing artistry.  It’s crucial to the artist that his paintings tell a story and in some way keep our memories alive.  In this work, Dan merges the old and the new through the images of the girl and the quilt she carries.  The young girl is the spirit of a new generation of quilters, influencing our town and the quilting world.  The quilt and its pattern symbolize tradition.  The pieces floating from it combine to form the meadow of flowers and represent the creative and evolving nature of quilting today.

Dan has been a professional artist for over 17 years and has won numerous awards for his work.  Most often he uses acrylics and paints with a fine, realistic style, and stunning detail in the area of focus.  Dan and his wife Julia own The Clearwater Gallery in Sisters.  They and their four children have lived in Central Oregon for 15 years – drawn to the area by the incredible people and the peaceful atmosphere.

The Stitchin’ Post of Sisters, Oregon has exclusive rights to produce and sell official Quilt Show merchandise utilizing the artist's image. Please click here to browse the t-shirts, posters, mugs and other official memorabilia available for purchase.
